September 8th, 2022 will be a date remembered forever due to the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Shortly after her coronation on June 2, 1953, Queen Elizabeth II embarked on a six month world tour to introduce herself to her subjects and her first stop was Bermuda, England’s second oldest colony in the Empire. In her reign of 70 years, the Queen visited the island six times, some say it was her most cherished in the commonwealth. As a Bermudian, the British anthem is one of the first song we were taught to sing in school at the start and end of holidays and special occasions. When she visited, we would sometimes go out as a class to wave to her on the streets in Hamilton. If we were lucky we could get close enough to see her in the car that would zoom quickly by! Last month we said goodbye to her and watched from our digital devices the world saying farewell too.
