UNDER THE SEA

September 2023 print & online editions
I am so excited to be recommended by British VOGUE magazine for their September 2023 issue, over the moon actually because it represents a significant validation and recognition of my art and design and years of hard work in creating it all! Vogue is a prestigious and influential publication in the fashion and lifestyle industry, known for its discerning taste and ability to spot trends and emerging talent. I am over the moon and so thrilled about this exposure and look forward to continuing to design and create more art and design for the future, in every way possible! Thank you British VOGUE! My island inspired brand started with one idea, a beach sarong and one motif and one thing I knew a lot about, growing up on an island, a British one called Bermuda. I drew inspiration from the natural surroundings, with the sea as a constant companion, providing endless opportunities for exploration, water activities, and a deep appreciation for nature. -

Designer Dana Cooper adds a luxury winter scarf to her line-up.
The Royal Gazette
By Jessie Moniz Hardy, Dec 15, 2022
Dana Cooper is a Bermudian designer best known for beachwear.
But this month, as the temperature plummeted into the chilly 50s, she has launched a line of items to keep you warm — luxury cashmere scarves.
“My new line of scarves are 100 per cent Scottish cashmere,” Ms Cooper said. “This is something I have been wanting to do. They come in a bouquet of island colours, as well as black.”
She thought the scarf line would be good for Bermuda because it does get chilly in winter, and it is also nice to have something warm to travel with, if you are going overseas.
“I really wanted to make something to complement my line, which is mostly resort wear and beachwear,” she said. “I wanted to create an accessory for the fall and winter.”
She already has a line of colourful chiffon scarves.

Dana makes men’s shorts more fun and inclusive
The Royal Gazette
By Jessie Moniz Hardy, Dec 15, 2021
There is an old saying, every man puts his pants on, one leg at a time.
But one leg at time can be a real challenge when you have a mobility issue, or need to be somewhere in a hurry.
Bermudian fashion designer Dana Cooper started thinking about this last year, when her athlete friend broke his leg.
“He had a cast on up to his hip,” said the owner of Dana Cooper Designs. “It hindered his whole life. He kept complaining that he wanted to wear a pair of Bermuda shorts, but he couldn’t get the pant leg on. We couldn’t find anything in the stores, or online that was appropriate, or in his style.”

Collection Inspired By Our Sailing Heritage
The Royal Gazette
By Jessie Moniz Hardy, Dec 15, 2017
Nothing could be more fitting for the daughter of an Olympic sailor than designing nautical-inspired garments for The America’s Cup.
Dana Cooper, a fashion and graphic designer, is the daughter of Kirk Cooper, who competed at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Games for Bermuda, and was an international juror at the 1983 America’s Cup.
Ms Cooper has been producing Bermuda-inspired beachwear and accessories for many years under the label that carries her name.
She most recently showed another collection in the Bermuda Fashion Collective at the Bermuda Society of Arts in November, and in July showed in the International Designers’ Showcase during the City of Hamilton’s Bermuda Fashion Festival in July.
The inspiration behind the 13 designs selected by The America’s Cup merchandising director came from her time on the water.
“I grew up sailing and I know what sailing means to Bermuda, whether that is the history of the early trade, the maritime history in which my family have participated in over the centuries,” she said.

She graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York and has her own Bermuda-inspired resort wear line, as well as her best-selling Bermuda children’s books. She had a pop-up boutique at The Coral Beach Club last summer and was an official licensee for America’s Cup in 2017. What is your favourite Bermudian tradition?
Good Friday and kite flying, which mark the beginning of spring. Family and friends gather together across the island to picnic and/or fly colourful kites. The aroma of freshly baked hot cross buns is in the air, and Easter Lilies, as well as other flowers, are in full bloom. It’s a beautiful time of year.

ON THE SCENE
By Genevieve Bahrenburg
We designed it as a warm weather alternative to our original fur funnel,"says designer Gigi Mortimer of the brilliantly printed beach poncho that we will no doubt see brightening up beaches from Nantucket to Newport, Bridgehampton to Biarritz, this summer.
"It's inspired by casual island living and is brightly colored and easy for anyone to wear beachside or paired with white jeans to go out at night."
Mortimer, who earned her design stripes creating accessories for Vera Wang and Ralph Lauren, teamed up with PR exec Courtney Moss to launch their fashion line, Glamourpuss NYC, last year, and the creation of the poncho with its adjustable length and long sleeves, quickly followed. To design its flamboyant prints, Mortimer tapped the talents of her girlhood friend Dana Cooper.
I have always admired Dana's art of its whimsical Bermudian colors and the way she captures that carefree spirit," says Mortimer.
